Scooper Volleyball Camps
The Sturgis High School Volleyball program will have two camps coming up this summer. Both camp forms will be at Sturgis, Piedmont, and Whitewood Schools till the end of the school year.
The South Dakota Tech Volleyball team will conduct a camp at the Sturgis Brown High School West Gym June 4-6. Grades 6-8 will meet from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and grades 9-12 will have camp from Noon-3:00 p.m.
The Sturgis Brown High School Volleyball Camp will be June 17-18 at the West Gym. Grades 3-6 will have instruction from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Grades 7-8 will meet from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and Grades 9-12 will go from Noon-3:00 p.m. each day.

Scooper Spring Athletic Banquet
The annual Sturgis Brown High School Spring Athletic Banquet was held Monday, May 6 at the high school at which time highlights of the spring sports and accomplishments of the athletes were showcased.
The Mary Quail Cheerleading Award, which represents the spirit and character of cheerleading and which is voted on by the other cheerleaders, was presented to Brooke Passolt.
The Booster of the Year Award, as selected by the cheerleaders, was awarded to teacher Darcy Nagel who, until last year when she resigned her extra-curricular duties, had served for 22 years as adviser to the cheerleaders and Pep Club.
Three-sport athletes Lia Meirose, Till Olson and Whitney Werdell were recognized by Activities Director Mike Paris, who also introduced them as White Letter Award honor athletes.
The Sturgis Booster Club-sponsored Distinguished Service Award went to Scott Jensen, announcer for all home basketball and volleyball games, wrestling matches and other sports as needed. This annual award is given to a person who, in the eyes of the Booster Club, promotes or provides a service that promotes Sturgis Scooper athletics.

Sturgis Brown High School Athletic Hall of Fame Announced
The Sturgis Brown High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the 2013 class of honorees will be Friday, February 1, during the home basketball game in the west gym at the high school. Athletes selected for induction include: Tom Berry, Jessica Engel, Kenneth Linstrom and Clifford Lushbough. The lone coach/administrator in the induction class is Elwood Dietrich.
Induction activities on February 1 include a reception hosted by the Sturgis Booster Club, S-Club and Loud American Roadhouse from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Sturgis Brown High School choir room. The inductees will then be recognized during the halftime of the boys basketball game at approximately 8 p.m. at which time each will recieve a commemorative plaque.
The Hall of Fame was formed in 2011 as a way of paying tribute to the many individuals who have been a part of the rich tradition of the Sturgis Brown High School athletic programs. A permanent Hall of Fame display is located in the lobby of the west gym at the high school.

Nominations For SBHS Hall Of Fame Sought
Nominations for the third class of inductees into the Sturgis Brown High School Hall Of Fame are being accepted until April 30.
The categories of nominees are athlete; coach, advisor, or administrator; and community member or contributor. Athletes become eligible for consideration on the fifth anniversary of their graduation from SBHS. Those nominated as a coach, advisor, or adminstrator must be retired or no longer employed with Meade School District for a minimum of three years. There is no time restriction on community members or contributors.
The Hall of Fame was formed in 2011 as a way of paying tribute to the many individuals who have been a part of the rich tradition of the Sturgis Brown High School athletic programs. A permanent Hall of Fame display is located in the lobby of the west gym at Sturgis Brown High School.
The nominations of those not selected this year will be kept on file and active for the next five years.
The nomination form and criteria are available at the SBHS activity director's office and main office and by CLICKING HERE.

Area Grapplers Pepper All-GDC Squad
Conference champion, Sturgis, runner-up Rapid City Central and third-place Rapid City Stevens are amply represented on the Greater Dakota Conference all-conference wrestling team.
Rapid City Central finished third in the recent Class A state meet in Aberdeen, with Sturgis fourth and Rapid City Stevens sixth.
Sturgis, mentored by GDC coach of the year Steve Keszler, is represented by seniors Tanner Bothwell (120-pound Class A champion), Morgan Engbrecht (126-pound Class A champion), Nick Montieth (138-pound Class A runner-up) and Clay Kopplin (third at 160); junior Kaiden White Bear (eighth at 152) and sophomore Brody Jorenson (Class A runner-up at 106)
Undefeated Sturgis topped the league standings at 6-0, followed by Central (5-1), Stevens (4-2), Roosevelt (3-3), Lincoln (2-4), Washington (1-5) and O'Gorman (0-6).

GDC Academic All-Conference
Here are the seniors from Sturgis Brown High School who have earned academic all-conference honors from the Greater Dakota Conference during the 2012 winter season. To qualify for academic all-conference, the athlete must be a senior, have a cumulative 3.5 grade point average and be a member of a varsity team.

Sturgis High School Hall of Fame Inductees
The Sturgis Brown High School Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony for the 2012 class of honorees will be held on Saturday, February 18, during the home basketball game in the west gym at the high school.
Athletes selected for induction include Jim Daane, Dean Johnson, Holly Albrecht-Kopplin, Scott Lensegrav, Dr. Bruce Lushbough, Frosty Paris, Tyler Steinle, Steve Thomas, Brent Voorhees and Dan Wilson. Contributors to be inducted are Dr. Tom and Terry Hermann, Dr. George Jenter, Lloyd Keszler and Ruth Smit. Cal Corey is the lone coach in the induction class.
Induction activities on February 18 include a reception, hosted by the Sturgis Booster Club, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Sturgis Brown High School choir room, and again during halftime of the girls basketball game at approximately 7:45 p.m., also in the choir room. The inductees will then be recognized during halftime of the boys basketball game at approximately 8:30 p.m. at which time each will receive a commemorative plaque. Activities will conclude with a post-game social.

Scoopers' Inaugural Hall Class Announced
The Sturgis Brown High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its inaugural class of nine athletes, three coaches/administrators and two contributors at the Friday, September 9 home football game at Woodle Field.
Induction activities begin at 5:30 p.m. with a pre-game social. The inductees will then be recognized during halftime of the football game where each will receive a commemorative plaque.
Athletes selected for induction include Dale Hardy, Carroll Hardy, Don McVay, Alen Sigman (posthumously), Dee Herrmann Gilbert, Brett Burditt, Chris Gadsden, Doug Miller (posthumously) and Megan Mahoney. Coaches/administrators in the induction class are Larry Burditt, Bob Peterson (posthumously) and Buell Woodle (posthumously). Contributors to be inducted are Ernie Miller and Keith Smit.
Sturgis activities director Mike Paris said nominations for the second class of inductees are being accepted from September 15-October 12. The nomination form and criteria are available at his office at Sturgis Brown High School.
