March Gaming Revenues Down, Table Games Up

According to statistics released by the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, the March 2016 gaming handle fell 1.71% and the slot machine handle decreased 2.13% in March when compared to March 2015. The table game handle, which continues to be driven by strong craps, and roulette play, increased by 5.38%, when compared to last March's numbers. This left $6,666,736.48 in total revenues for the month, when using the SD Supreme Court ruling on factoring gaming revenues, which is a decrease of $54,564 over March 2015.

"We are seeing the regional economic factors at work here in Deadwood." said Mike Rodman, executive director of the Deadwood Gaming Association. "The recent layoffs in the Wyoming coal sector and the decrease in agriculture income certainly impact Deadwood too. However we continue to be thankful for the popularity of craps, roulette and keno and their positive impact on table game revenues."

Deadwood's revitalization efforts continue with the implementation of Roger Brook's recommendation to extended entertainment into the spring season. Deadwood Alive performs Friday and Saturday afternoons on Deadwood's Main Street now through May 21. The reenactors' full summer schedule begins Memorial Day weekend.
