   Chris Fryer Benefit

Please help support the Chris Fryer Benefit on Sunday, May 4 from 4-7 p.m. at the Hideaway Diner and Bar in Whitewood. Enjoy the pancake feed and silent auction throughout the evening.

Chris, the 14-year-old son of Lori and Randy Fryer, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in June of 2013. Surgery has been performed and he continues to take chemotherapy treatments. As we all know, there are many expenses that are not covered by insurance such as travel, food, lodging, some prescriptions and more.

Chris attended Whitewood Elementary through his 8th Grade year and he is now a Freshman at Sturgis Brown High School. Prior to the cancer he was active in motorcross racing, basketball, football, baseball, band and strong academically as well!

Come on out and help support Chris and his family. Search "Chris Fryer Benefit" on Facebook for a list of auction items and for more information. Once again the Chris Fryer Benefit Pancake Supper and Silent Auction will be May 4, starting at 4 p.m. at the Hideaway Diner in Whitewood.

Meade County School District
Scoopers Name New Girls Basketball Coach

The Sturgis Scoopers have announced the hiring of Jordan (Stapp) Proefrock to take over the varsity girls basketball program.

Proefrock replaces Mike Freidel, who is stepping down after 22-years at the helm. Proefrock, like Freidel, is from Newell, and spent two years as an assistant coach with him.

Proefrock will leave her coaching position at Lead-Deadwood, where she really turned around the girls basketball program there. She credits the great administrative guidance she received.

The former Newell Irrigator standout is faced with taking over a Sturgis team losing a very talented senior class, including Kahlie Peterson, Lynsey Prosser and Errin Short. However, she looks forward to the challenge that lies ahead.

Peterson Signs Letter Intent With SD Mines

The South Dakota School of Mines Women's Basketball program picked up a nice commitment last week. Head Coach Ryan Larsen's team added Sturgis standout Kahlie Peterson.

Peterson was a second-team Class AA all-state selection for the Scoopers this season. She helped her team to a fourth place finish at the State AA Tournament last month in Brookings.
