Three new sites for the 2020-21 South Dakota high school state girls basketball tournaments were approved today.
With the joint class high school state basketball tournaments in its final season, finding a home for the three events next season needed to be done before the 2019-20 basketball seasons wrapped up.
Next year, the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls will host the Class 2A tournament for the first time. The two other classes — Class 1A and Class B — will play in Watertown and Huron.
The state boys tournaments for the 2020-21 season will remain the same with Class 2A at The Monument in Rapid City while Class 1A will play at the Premier Center in Sioux Falls. The Class B state tournament will take place in Aberdeen.
Here’s a breakdown of when this year’s state basketball tournaments take place:
Class B Girls: March 12-14 in Spearfish
Class B Boys: March 19-21 in Aberdeen
Class 1A (girls and boys): March 19-21 in Rapid City
Class 2A (girls and boys): March 19-21 in Sioux Falls
With the joint class high school state basketball tournaments going away after this season, the @SDHSAA approved three new sites for the girls state basketball tournaments in the spring of 2021.

Another positive about two separate weekends (three for each) is that all of the student athletes have the opportunity to be on SDPB-TV.
Right now with the current setup, games at the secondary sites in RC and SF are web streamed only – due to five games happening at once.
