Scam phone calls have been reported from Black Hills Energy customers.
The calls have been relaying to the customers that their payment is past due, and are requesting the customer to call an 800 number to make an immediate payment or their service will be shut off in the ensuing 30-60 minutes.
If you are receiving calls that are requesting payment, do not call the requested number back or make a payment.
“These calls are a fraudulent attempt to coerce our customers in to making a false payment,” says Mutch Usera, Sr. community relations manager at Black Hills Energy. “If you have any questions regarding this ongoing scam, please contact Black Hills Energy customer service center directly at 888-890-5554. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available.”
If a customer is receiving scam phone calls, they can contact the Black Hills Energy provider using the phone number provided on your monthly bill or the utility’s website. Customers should do this to verify the identification of any utility workers arriving unannounced before letting them inside.
Furthermore, if you suspect fraud from a phone call or if someone is at your front door that is claiming to be someone they aren’t, contact local law enforcement immediately.
