Rapid City, Sioux Falls Want Airport Funding Cap Lifted

Managers from the Rapid City and Sioux Falls airports are asking the South Dakota Aeronautics Commission to lift its funding cap. The current limit is two-hundred-thousand dollars on grants for commercial airports. That number was set in 2021. The commission’s chair, Eric Odenbach of Eureka, says the cap would be waived if there was money. Rapid City Regional Airport has received close to 22-million dollars of federal funding so far for an expansion of the terminal and wants the commission to provide a five-percent match of just over a million dollars. Sioux Falls Regional Airport is also looking to add five gates to its terminal that will cost about one-hundred-30 million.
