A federal report shows South Dakota’s median household income saw the biggest drop in the country. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, South Dakota is just one of nine states that had a decrease from 2021 to 2022. The report shows that the median income for the state went down just over nine percent from almost 74-thousand to 67-thousand dollars. South Dakotans do have lower median incomes, but that this is offset by a low tax burden as well. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development hasn’t yet responded to questions of concern about the decline.
