Recycling Proceeds To Benefit Feeding Deadwood

The Deadwood City Commission has voted to allocate aluminum can recycling proceeds to the organization Feeding Deadwood. Kerry Ruth is the director of Feeding Deadwood. She said the organization distributes between 50-70 bags of food from 1-2 p.m. every Friday at Ferguson Field in Deadwood.

Feeding Deadwood is a 100% volunteer organization and all donations go to the purchase of foods. It started in March of 2020 and has continued to grow as the need increases, due to rising food costs.

Deadwood Mayor Dave Ruth, Jr. estimates the donation amount will be around $1,400-$2,000, as can collections have amounted to in years past. A cage is located near the parks department where people can bring aluminum cans to recycle. For more information about Feeding Deadwood, follow them on Facebook. Donations are also accepted at the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce.
