Deadwood Awards Over $46,000 In Outside Deadwood Grants

Deadwood Historic Preservation will once again help out non-profit entities with preservation projects across the state, as the Deadwood City Commission has approved round one of the 2024 Outside Deadwood grants in the amount of $46,500.

Deadwood Historic Preservation Officer Kevin Kuchenbecker said this round of grant requests included 10 applications. There are two local projects and programs that have been awarded during this first funding cycle of the year.

The Historic Homestake Opera House in Lead was awarded $10,000 to help with second floor window replacement. The second floor in the recreation building portion of the Homestake Opera House has 13 windows in desperate need of replacement. Ainsworth Benning Construction has bid to do the work and has sourced windows that will keep with the current look and style of the exterior of the building on main street in Lead. The Booth Society in Spearfish was awarded $3,500 for restoration of the historic Yellowstone Boat, used by D.C. Booth in his hatchery work and on display at the hatchery.
