Grief Support Groups In The Northern Hills

Hospice of the Northern Hills sponsors several free, ongoing Grief Support Groups for those who are coping with the death of a loved one. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend one of the groups.

Belle Fourche:

Meetings are on the first and third Monday of each month. The next meetings will take place on Feb. 6 and Feb. 20, at 3 p.m., at the Belle Fourche Regional Medical Clinic, 2200 13th Ave.

Spearfish:

Meetings are on the first and third Wednesday of each month. The next meetings will take place on Feb. 1 and Feb. 15, at 3 p.m., in the FMC Conference Room, Spearfish Regional Hospital, located at 1440 N. Main St.

Sturgis:

Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month. The next meetings will take place on Feb. 7 and Feb. 21, at 3:30 p.m., in the Conference Room at Sturgis Regional Hospital, located at 949 Harmon St.

These groups are designed to offer support through communication with others who are experiencing the grieving process as well as provide tools and resources for coping. The goal is to bring understanding of the grief process and its many emotions.

Since not everyone who is grieving is ready for a group experience, advance registration is encouraged. If you or someone you know would benefit from a support group, or for more information, please call Hospice of the Northern Hills at (605) 644- 4238 or (605) 644-4248.

   Adams Learning Workshop

The Adams Learning Workshop series for students in grades K-12 continues on February 4, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Chinese New Year party. The workshops are designed to spark creativity, promote the arts and sciences, and most importantly offer youth fun opportunities in an informal museum environment. Join educator Chelsie Bauer and other museum staff to celebrate Chinese New Year. The workshop is $10 per student, and $5 for Adams members. Call Chelsie at 605-578-1928 for reservations. Participants will meet at the Adams Museum in the Pioneer Room, 54 Sherman St., Deadwood at 11:00 a.m. A light lunch will be served.

Chinese New Year is the main festival in China every year. Workshop participants will learn how Chinese New Year is celebrated and why this holiday is so important to Chinese culture and Deadwood, too. Students will also learn what the year of the dragon means for 2012. The workshop will include a history lesson, a Chinese style lunch, craft projects and a red envelope ceremony. Youth will also learn how to say “Happy New Year!” in Chinese!
