Black Hills State Athletics radio broadcaster Steve Ammerman with Riverfront Broadcasting was named South Dakota Sportscaster of the Year.
“I’m honored to receive the South Dakota Sportscaster of the Year award, and I thank my peers for selecting me,” said Ammerman.
Ammerman is one of 116 who won state sportscaster or sportswriter of the year honors, and is among the 70 who are first-time winners in their respective states.
The NSMA will honor its award winners and Hall of Fame inductees during the organization’s 63rd awards weekend and national convention, scheduled for June 24-26, 2023, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Ammerman has been “the voice” of Black Hills State University football along with men’s and women’s basketball since 2012 on Eagle Country radio and now KDSJ.
He began his radio broadcast career as a Sports Director at KWYR- Radio in Winner, South Dakota in 1984, covering local high school teams.
After a short stint at KSYZ radio in Grand Island, Nebraska, Steve returned to South Dakota, providing high school sports coverage on Kool 98 and KMIT radio in Mitchell before arriving in the Black Hills where he has announced Legion baseball and high school and college athletics since 2003.
Steve and his wife Kimberly have two sons, Logan and Jack.
