Spearfish Hires City Administrator

The Spearfish City Council Monday, August 5, 2024 approved the employment contract of Bobby Falcon, who currently serves as city administrator in Lewiston, Minnesota. His expected start date is September 16.

“We are excited to welcome him to Spearfish,” Mayor John Senden said. “We believe his experience and education in public administration will help in leading Spearfish to achieve even greater levels of success in the future.”

Falcon has a Master of Business Administration degree and an Executive Certificate in Public Administration from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, and received his undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Healthcare Administration from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. He has served as the city administrator in Lewiston since 2021, and he serves on the executive board for the Minnesota Association of Small Cities and for the Minnesota Board of Firefighter Education and Training. He previously served the City of Bryon, Minnesota, as a firefighter/training officer. In the private sector, he served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Rud Corporation (JBS Division), a hazmat transportation company.

In these roles, he has had direct involvement with or oversight of organizational operations and financial decisions and been responsible for various aspects of operations including human resources, benefits administration, payroll, accounts receivable/payable, procurement, local, state, and federal regulatory compliance, information technology (IT) administration, project management, supervision, safety, and more.

“The combination of my experience and education has provided me with a well-balanced approach to government,” Falcon said, adding, “I will work hard on the goal of envisioning sustainable growth, enhanced infrastructure, and other initiatives to support Spearfish’s efforts of sustaining as a community that people enjoy visiting as well as one its citizens are proud to be a part of.”

Falcon’s wife, Kara, is a registered nurse at the Mayo Clinic, and they have two adult children, Ethan and Kacey. In his free time, Falcon enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, hiking, camping, and scuba diving.

The City Administrator position has been open since December 2023, with City Department heads and Elected Officials guiding the City during the transition and Mayor Senden taking on a portion of the responsibilities.
