The Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers (0-6) will travel to Hart Ranch tonight to face the Rapid City Christian Comets in an interclass football matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on the campus of Rapid City Christian Schools.
Lead-Deadwood enters the game still searching for its first win of the season. The Golddiggers are coming off a narrow 18-15 loss to No. 4 Mobridge-Pollock, marking their third consecutive one-score defeat. Previous losses include a 19-18 setback to Custer and a 38-22 loss to Belle Fourche. First-year head coach Michael Barnaud leads the team after taking over for Kyle Kooima last season.
Rapid City Christian (2-4) earned its second win last week with a dominant 69-0 victory over Lakota Tech. The Comets began the season with three straight losses to ranked opponents and currently hold a 0-1 record in Black Hills Conference play, following a 31-20 loss to Hot Springs on September 26.
The Comets have led the series against Lead-Deadwood 3-1 since 2021. The Golddiggers won the inaugural matchup 6-0 in October 2021 but have failed to score in the last two meetings. A win tonight would snap Lead-Deadwood’s three-game losing streak to Rapid City Christian and offer their best opportunity for a victory before facing No. 2 St. Thomas More next week.
For the Comets, a win would move them closer to a .500 season, with two remaining games against teams with losing records.
Kickoff is slated for 6:00 pm tonight.
