The Rapid City Stevens Raiders closed out their home regular season slate with a strong performance Tuesday night, defeating the Spearfish Spartans 3–1 in a Class AA volleyball matchup at Stevens High School.
Stevens claimed the win with set scores of 24–26, 25–20, 25–12, and 25–20, improving their overall record to 26–9. Spearfish, which entered the match needing a win to boost its SoDak 16 hosting chances, fell to 19–12 on the season.
The Spartans opened the match with momentum, edging the Raiders 26–24 in the first set. However, Stevens responded with three straight set wins, including a dominant third set where they held Spearfish to just 12 points.
The victory continues Stevens’ recent success against Spearfish, marking their fourth win in the last five meetings between the two programs. The Raiders, well within the top eight standings to host a playoff match, will close the regular season on the road this weekend when they travel to Sioux Falls Washington and 4th-ranked Sioux Falls Jefferson. The Spartans face an uphill battle to secure a home match in the upcoming SoDak 16 round.
Spearfish will be back in the Rapid City Area again on Thursday as they take on the Douglas Patriots (7-27) to end their regular season, with first serve at 7:00 pm. The game will be streamed live on KDSJ-TV on YouTube and on Facebook.
