Longtime Belle Fourche boys basketball coach Jim Martin has resigned from his position, the school announced Saturday. Martin, in his second stint leading the Broncs, leaves with a two‑year record of 6–26.
Martin’s coaching career spans nearly 40 years across multiple levels of basketball. His résumé includes stops at Belle Fourche, Dakota Wesleyan, and Sioux Falls O’Gorman, along with experience coaching football and girls basketball. His first tenure with the Broncs ran from 1995 to 2010, highlighted by an 18–4 finish in his final season.
He returned to Belle Fourche ahead of the 2024 season when the head coaching position reopened.
Assistant coach John Shanklin has been named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Shanklin, a former Black Hills State University men’s basketball player from 2020 to 2025, is in his first year on the Broncs’ staff.
Belle Fourche, currently 1–10, will host Hot Springs (5–6) on Thursday.
