The Spearfish Spartans reached the 10‑win mark in emphatic fashion Tuesday night, rolling past Lead‑Deadwood 76–33 in a dominant home performance. The victory moves Spearfish to 10–1, while the Golddiggers drop to 10–6.
The Spartans exploded out of the gate, building a 31–6 first‑quarter lead and never allowing Lead‑Deadwood to recover. The 76‑point output marked Spearfish’s highest scoring total of the season.
Defense set the tone early. Spearfish forced a flurry of turnovers that turned into transition baskets, allowing the Spartans to control the pace from the opening tip. Senior Kamren Davis powered the early surge, scoring all 15 of his points in the first half, including two three‑pointers and a breakaway dunk. He earned Superior Performer honors for his effort.
Davis wasn’t alone in disrupting the Golddiggers’ offense. Bennett Kortan, Kade Vavruska, Mason Southern, and Karsen Seyer each contributed multiple steals as Spearfish’s pressure defense kept Lead‑Deadwood off balance throughout the night.
The Spartans also dominated the glass, collecting numerous offensive rebounds and extending possessions that consistently led to points.
Lead‑Deadwood junior guard Blake Janssen, averaging more than 17 points per game entering the matchup, was held to just seven, with only two before halftime. Senior Cannon Rodgers provided most of the Golddiggers’ offense, scoring 19 points, including three first‑half three‑pointers.
Spearfish’s depth was on full display, as every varsity player scored. Seyer led the bench with seven points, followed by Payton Jones (6), Sam Marcus (5), Ashar Hodgs (4), Tucker Olson (3), Alex Eisner (3), Thomas Hughes (2), and Issac Wilson (1). Despite frequent substitutions, the Spartans maintained their defensive intensity and offensive execution.
Lead‑Deadwood had four players score: Rodgers (19), Janssen (7), Garrett Rantapaa (4), and Enzo Stone (3).
The Golddiggers return home Friday to face Hill City in a key Black Hills Conference and Region 8A matchup.
