The Spearfish girls basketball team saw its three-game win streak snapped Tuesday night, falling 54–38 to a physical and disciplined Rapid City Christian squad. The loss drops the Lady Spartans to 10–6 and keeps them in the No. 9 spot in the Class AA Power Points standings.
Spearfish controlled much of the first half and took a 26–24 lead into the locker room behind a dominant opening stretch from Kate Scharf. The junior guard poured in 16 first-half points and finished with a game-high 20, earning Superior Performer honors.
But the second half belonged to the Lady Comets.
Rapid City Christian tightened its defense, outscoring Spearfish 30–18 over the final two quarters. The Comets repeatedly attacked the paint, scoring on drives and creating second-chance opportunities through strong rebounding. Spearfish struggled to match the interior pressure and couldn’t generate enough stops to slow the surge.
Christian’s Sadie Marshall proved to be the difference maker, leading all Comets with 19 points — 12 of them coming after halftime. Her ability to finish at the rim and control the pace helped the Comets pull away and secure third place in the Black Hills Conference.
Rapid City Christian improved to 16–3 overall and 7–1 on the road, maintaining its hold on the No. 1 seed in Region 8A. The Lady Comets close their regular season Friday against Class AA No. 4 Rapid City Stevens at Hart Ranch.
Spearfish, meanwhile, missed a chance to climb into the top eight and secure a guaranteed home SoDak 16 game. The Lady Spartans now turn their attention to a major test on Friday when they travel to undefeated No. 1 Brandon Valley (16–0). The matchup will air on KDSJ Radio, kdsj980.com, the KDSJ Mobile App, and stream on KDSJ TV on YouTube and Facebook Live.
