Black Hills State University is reassuring students after social media posts claimed ICE agents were on campus last week. University officials say Immigration and Customs Enforcement did visit BHSU, but only for a routine compliance review of international student records — a process that happens about once each semester.
The check is part of the federal Student and Exchange Visitor Program, which allows BHSU to enroll students on F‑1 and J‑1 visas. Officials say the review is administrative, similar to an audit, and not related to immigration enforcement.
BHSU currently hosts 25 international students from 15 countries.
