A Kyle man has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison for assaulting a woman on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
Federal prosecutors say 30‑year‑old Clay Loafer pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury after repeatedly striking a woman with whom he had a brief relationship. The case was prosecuted under the Major Crimes Act, which places certain violent offenses in Indian Country under federal jurisdiction.
Loafer was sentenced to three years and one month in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He must also pay just over nineteen hundred dollars in restitution.
The investigation was led by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Lindrooth.
