The Spearfish boys basketball team closed its regular season with a 68–58 win over Brookings on Tuesday, ending a three‑game losing streak and improving to 15–5. Senior Kamren Davis delivered a dominant performance, scoring 34 points — including 20 in the first half — to earn Superior Performer honors. Senior Bennett Kortan added a season‑high 21.
Spearfish led 20–17 after the first quarter and held a 32–26 advantage at halftime, but Brookings stayed within reach behind senior guard Drew Johnson, who finished with 21 points. The Spartans created separation in the third quarter, fueled by a 12‑point burst from Kortan, and Davis closed out the game in the fourth.
Brookings, which ends its season at 1–19, received additional scoring from Noah Lease with 11 points and Gavin Smith with 10.
Spearfish’s win was not enough to maintain its No. 6 position in the Class AA standings. Due to strength‑of‑schedule factors and head‑to‑head results elsewhere, the Spartans dropped to the No. 8 seed, securing the final home slot for the SoDak 16. They will host No. 9 Tea Area (12–8) on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s SoDak 16, when Spearfish won 54–48 in overtime.
Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday in Spearfish, with coverage on KDSJ‑TV on YouTube and KDSJ Radio’s Facebook Live. Radio availability will depend on RMAC tournament scheduling.
