A man arrested in what the South Dakota Highway Patrol calls the largest meth seizure in its history has pleaded guilty in federal court.
Forty‑three‑year‑old Alonso Molina‑Corona entered a guilty plea Monday to conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance. He was stopped by Highway Patrol troopers in Sturgis back on August 8th of last year.
According to court documents, Molina‑Corona admitted to transporting about 200 pounds of methamphetamine. At the time, Attorney General Marty Jackley estimated the street value at roughly twelve million dollars.
When he’s sentenced, Molina‑Corona faces a mandatory minimum of ten years — and up to life — in federal prison.
Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
