In Sturgis, Mayor Kevin Forrester has resigned from office as he continues treatment for pancreatic cancer.
Forrester’s resignation took effect Monday. He was diagnosed last fall and says he has spent recent months working closely with City Administrator Aaron Jordan and the City Council to ensure continuity in city operations.
Jordan says the city is now preparing for a special election to choose the next mayor, with early discussions pointing to a possible timeline in early June.
Forrester became mayor in November 2024 and ran unopposed in the April 2025 election.
In a statement, he thanked city staff and the community for their support, saying, “Good leadership means planning ahead, not out of fear, but out of responsibility.”
City leaders will hold a special meeting Wednesday night at 6:30 to discuss the resignation and outline a transition plan.
