The South Dakota Department of Health is reporting another flu‑related death, bringing the statewide total this season to 25.
In the latest update, health officials confirmed 649 new flu cases and 15 additional hospitalizations.
Locally, Meade County has now recorded 410 cases and one death. Pennington County continues to see the highest numbers with 1,655 cases and two deaths. Lawrence County has reported 225 cases with no flu‑related fatalities.
The Department of Health is reminding residents that the best protection against the flu remains simple: wash your hands frequently and stay current with the latest flu vaccine.
Health officials say they’ll continue monitoring trends as the season progresses.
