The Spearfish Spartans fell 9–3 to the Huron Tigers on Friday at the Sturgis Baseball Complex, despite an early competitive showing.
Huron opened the scoring in the second inning on a balk, then added to its lead in the third with run‑producing hits from Tommie Martin, Crayton Siedschlag, and Korbin Bischoff.
Huron starter Nolan Stahly earned the win, allowing four hits and three unearned runs over four innings with five strikeouts and one walk. Spearfish’s Walker Viessman took the loss after working three innings and giving up five runs on four hits. Bray Bowar provided 3.1 innings of relief, striking out four.
Spearfish recorded six hits in the game, with Dean LaFayette, Bowar, Connor Johnson, Jack Scharf, Viessman, and Cooper Chase each contributing one. LaFayette and Scharf drove in the Spartans’ runs.
Martin led Huron offensively with three RBI and a 2‑for‑4 performance. Bischoff also tallied two hits, while Sean Janes drew three of the Tigers’ eight total walks.
The Spartans return to action Saturday when they host Sioux Falls Washington at Black Hills Energy Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on KDSJ‑TV’s YouTube channel and on KDSJ’s Facebook Live.
