Former Sturgis Mayor Kevin Forrester passed away on Easter Sunday, according to friends and family, after battling pancreatic cancer.
Forrester had resigned from his mayoral duties in March and moved into hospice care.
Long-time friend and Sturgis businessman Rod Bradley confirmed Forrester’s death Sunday evening in a Facebook Post that said “Rest in Peace My Friend,” along with a picture of Kevin on his bike.
Meade County announced today all flags on county property would fly at half-staff in his honor. Forrester was a 28-year veteran of the county.
Meade County Commission Chairman Gary Deering wrote “Kevin Forrester’s commitment, integrity and contributions have left a lasting impact on colleagues, the organization and the community. His years of service reflect not only professional excellence but also a deep sense of responsibility and pride in his work. He will be remembered with respect, gratitude and honor.”
Deering says flags will be lowered to half-staff effective immediately and remain so through the day following his memorial service.
The city will host a day in Forrester’s honor June 10th, which will coincide with the first Sturgis Music on Main event of the summer.
