The Spearfish Spartans came up short in a Saturday doubleheader against Yankton, falling 11–1 in the opener and 5–0 in the second game in Chamberlain last Saturday.
Game 1 Recap
Yankton jumped out early, scoring twice in the first inning and adding four more in the second. Defensive miscues by Spearfish contributed to the early deficit, while Yankton continued to capitalize with steady contact at the plate.
Spearfish’s lone run came in the third, driven in by Bray Bowar, who also took the loss on the mound. Bowar allowed eight unearned runs on four hits over two and a third innings, striking out three.
Yankton’s Boston Frick earned the win, throwing three hitless innings with five strikeouts. Offensively, Easton Feser led the Bucks with three RBI and a 3‑for‑5 performance. Yankton drew 10 walks and stole seven bases in the victory.
Game 2 Recap
In the second matchup, Yankton again took advantage of early opportunities, scoring twice in the second inning on an error and adding two more in the third.
Spearfish starter Jack Scharf struck out three but allowed four runs—only one earned—over three innings. Yankton’s Chase Cooley shut down the Spartans’ offense, giving up just one hit and striking out eight in five and two‑thirds innings.
Dean LaFayette recorded Spearfish’s only hit of the game. Yankton played clean defense, committing no errors and collecting six walks at the plate.
