With five individuals currently within the top-4 of their respective events, the Black Hills State University men’s and women’s rodeo teams look to secure their spots as national qualifiers for the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo at the Great Plains Region finale, the 67th annual Cornhusker College Rodeo at the Sandhills Global Event Center. Among the regional leaders, Jayda Reinert looks to round out a regional title in barrel racing after having won her sixth title of the year in the event last weekend. Others vying for spots include Sierra Steele (barrel racing), Luke Mavity (tie down roping), Emma Ohm (breakaway roping), and Haley Husted (goat tying). Additionally, with another strong performance this weekend, the Yellow Jacket women’s team can lock up another bid as a team to the CNFR, holding down the second and final spot in the region currently.

BLACK HILLS STATE MEN’S RODEO STORYLINES
- The Black Hills State men’s rodeo team enters their final rodeo of the regular season ranked No. 9 in the Great Plains Region with 665.0 points this year.
- Luke Mavity has moved up to No. 4 in the region in tie down roping after three consecutive top-5 finishes this spring, totaling 495.0 points on the year. Entering the final rodeo of the season, he is just 21.0 points out of one of the top-3 qualifying spots for a return to the CNFR. He has recorded a second place finish at the Cyclone Stampede (22.4), a third place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede (26.1), a fourth place finish at the Jackrabbit Stampede (26.4), and a pair of fifth place finishes at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (25.7) and the Mystic Stampede (22.2).
- Glen Lammers is in his 18th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jacket men’s and women’s rodeo program.
BLACK HILLS STATE WOMEN’S RODEO STORYLINES
- The Black Hills State University women’s rodeo team enters their final rodeo of the regular season with a chance to capture a spot at the 2026 College National Finals Rodeo, ranked No. 2 in the Great Plains Region with 1,829.33 points this year. They are 325.75 points back of Dickinson State, who is the top team in the region currently, and are 319.33 points ahead of Mid-Plains, who are on the outside looking in currently of a team national qualifying spot.
- The Yellow Jackets have finished top-3 as a team in five different rodeos this year, finishing second at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo, the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1, and the Mystic Stampede, while also turning in a third place finish at the Blue Hawk Stampede and most recently a third place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede last weekend.
- The Green & Gold have once again dominated the barrel racing scene in the Great Plains Region, with six of the top-15 cowgirls in the region, including the top-2 currently in qualifying spots for the CNFR.
- The current No. 3 barrel racer in the nation and No. 1 in the Great Plains Region, Jayda Reinert has totaled 975.0 points through nine rodeos. She has claimed six barrel racing titles this season already, winning the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (32.11), Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (18.05 – 1 Go), Blue Hawk Stampede (35.07), Mystic Stampede (34.93), Triton Stampede (28.89), and the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede (27.91).
- Sierra Steele currently ranks No. 2 in the Great Plains Region in barrel racing, totaling 393.0 points. She has posted three top-5 finishes this year with second place finishes at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (36.28) and the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede (28.02), and a fourth place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (18.32 – 1 Go).
- Others in the top-15 within the Great Plains Region in barrel racing include No. 8 Capri Cammack (240.0 points), who recently posted a second place finish at the Jackrabbit Stampede (26.75), No. 10 Kamry Davis (230.0 points), who notched a sixth place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede (33.48), No. 11 Adeline Norstegaard (229.0 points), and No. 15 Kiera Mavity (150.0 points).
- Defending regional breakaway roping champion, Emma Ohm, enters the final rodeo of the regular season ranked No. 4 in the region and fighting for the third and final spot to the CNFR, having totaled 290.0 points thus far on the year. She currently sits 77 points out of the third place in the region. She has posted a third place finish at the Triton Stampede (6.0), a fourth place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #2 (8.0) and the Mystic Stampede (6.5), and a sixth place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (3.1 – 1 Go).
- After winning her first event title of her collegiate career, including both the long go and the short go, at the Mystic Stampede (5.1), Molly Gilbert remains No. 8 in the region with 180.0 points in breakaway roping.
- Haley Husted looks for a return trip to the CNFR in goat tying, looking to make a move into the top-3 during the final rodeo of the regular season as she currently ranks No. 4 in the region with 496.0 points in goat tying. She earned a title in the event at the Jackrabbit Stampede (13.2), a third place finish at the Mid-Plains Community College Stampede Rodeo #1 (7.4 – 1 Go), a fourth place finish at the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede (13.4), tied for fourth place at the Triton Stampede (14.3), and was sixth place at both the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo (15.5) and the Mystic Stampede (15.0).
- Also ranked within the top-15 of the region in goat tying is No. 9 Kiera Mavity (255.0), No. 10 Raylee Fagerhaug (230.0), and No. 14 Kenzie Homelvig (135.0).
