The president of the Spearfish School Board is stepping down.
Ryan Niesent announced his resignation Monday evening, effective June 9th, citing a recent promotion to chief operating officer at Bankwest that will limit his availability.
Niesent has served on the board since 2018 and was re-elected three times. In a statement, he said stepping aside will allow someone else to fully dedicate the time the role requires.
During his time on the board, Niesent helped push forward the district’s career and technical education center, which opened at Spearfish High School for the 2024-2025 school year.
The district is now accepting applications to fill the vacant seat. Applications close June 3rd, with interviews scheduled for June 8th.
Niesent called his time on the board an honor and praised the district’s commitment to students.
