The Spearfish Spartans couldn’t keep pace with the Jefferson Cavaliers Friday, falling 11-1 in Sioux Falls for game one of the SDHSBA Regionals best-of-3 series.
Jefferson jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning, highlighted by Easton Riley’s two-run triple. They added more in the third, with Boston Bryant driving in two runs on a double to extend the lead.
Cavaliers pitcher Kyler Boyd earned the win, allowing just one run over five innings while striking out five. Spearfish’s Sean Sewell took the loss after surrendering nine runs in just over three innings.
At the plate, Walker Viessman led the Spartans with two hits, while Bray Bowar drove in their lone run. Jefferson racked up 13 hits, with Riley collecting three and Bryant adding three RBIs.
The Spartans will look to bounce back when they face Jefferson again Today to force a game three. That game starts at 11:00 am
