A Box Elder man is behind bars again, less than 12 hours after being released from prison.
Police say officers were called late Thursday night to the 3500 block of Black Fox Drive after a suspicious encounter involving a pickup truck. According to reports, the occupants of the truck approached a resident, asked for a cigarette, and tried to get them into the vehicle before becoming confrontational when the offer was refused.
Officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, detaining everyone inside. During the investigation, police found open alcohol containers and a loaded revolver—later determined to have been stolen in an August 2025 vehicle burglary.
One of the occupants, 20-year-old Diego Perez of Box Elder, was identified as being on parole and had reportedly been released from prison earlier that same day.
Perez now faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, receiving stolen property, and open container in a motor vehicle. He is being held at the Pennington County Jail.
