A Denver man will spend decades behind bars after leading a major drug trafficking network tied to western South Dakota.
Federal prosecutors say 43-year-old Juan Sertuche was sentenced May 22nd to 45 years in prison. He was convicted on charges including conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with a firearm offense.
Authorities say Sertuche ran a long-term operation centered in Rapid City and Pine Ridge, supplying roughly 500 pounds of meth and more than 33,000 fentanyl pills over two decades.
Investigators also linked him to multiple drug seizures, including 19 pounds of meth during a traffic stop and 15-hundred fentanyl pills found at the time of his arrest in 2023.
Officials say Sertuche continued directing the operation even after being taken into custody, coordinating drug movement and firearms. Agents recovered several weapons, including two fully automatic machine guns.
He was sentenced to 40 years for drug charges and an additional five years for the firearm charge, to be served consecutively.
The case involved several South Dakota law enforcement agencies working alongside federal partners. Sertuche is now in federal custody.
