With warm weather settling into the Black Hills, Rapid City residents are being encouraged to hit the trails and celebrate the environment.
The city’s Sustainability Committee has kicked off the sixth annual Earth Day Trail Challenge, running now through June 30.
Participants are invited to explore three featured locations: the Upper, or Old Dino Trail along Skyline Drive, the Wild Turkey Trail at Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park, and the Nature Trail at Outdoor Campus West.
To complete the challenge, hikers simply take a selfie with the Earth Day Trail Challenge sign posted at each trail. Those who visit all three spots and submit their photos by the end of June will receive a commemorative Earth Day pin. Pins can be picked up at Outdoor Campus West during regular business hours.
Organizers are also reminding participants to help protect the environment by picking up litter along the way.
More details and trail maps are available through the Rapid City Sustainability Trail Challenge program website.
