Authorities have identified the teenager who died following a tragic incident at the Belle Fourche Reservoir over the weekend.
Fifteen-year-old Sawyer Eck of Belle Fourche will be remembered at memorial services scheduled for Friday, June fifth, at Connection Church in Belle Fourche, according to Kline Funeral Chapel.
Officials say Eck became separated from his paddleboard Friday in windy and rough water conditions before disappearing beneath the surface. Bystanders attempted to assist but were unable to reach him before first responders arrived.
Pennington County Search and Rescue crews were called in, and the teen was recovered later that evening.
Eck had just completed his freshman year at Belle Fourche High School. His obituary notes he had a deep love for the outdoors.
