A shooting near Toledo’s Old West End Festival wounded at least 12 people Saturday afternoon, prompting a search for suspects and a call for witnesses to share photos or videos with investigators.
Toledo police said the gunfire broke out near the annual community event, which features live music, home tours, food vendors and shopping in the city’s historic district. Deputy Police Chief Joe Heffernan said it appeared at least two people fired weapons and were likely shooting at each other.
Two victims were listed in critical condition. Officials said the victims ranged in age from 14 to 61, with most in their early 20s.
The shooting sent some festivalgoers running for cover while others tried to help the wounded. Emergency crews faced heavy traffic and closed roads as people left the area, but officials said all patients were taken from the scene within an hour.
The Old West End Festival is one of Toledo’s best-known summer events.
