The South Dakota Department of Transportation is giving the public more time to weigh in on a proposed highway project in the northern Black Hills.
SDDOT has extended the written comment period for the planned reconstruction of U.S. Highway 85 from the Wyoming state line to Highway 14A near Cheyenne Crossing.
The deadline for feedback is now September 4, pushed back from the original June 19 date to allow for greater public engagement.
The project was presented during an open house meeting in Deadwood earlier this month, where officials shared design plans and gathered input from community members.
For those who couldn’t attend—or want to review the proposal—project materials are available online through the Department of Transportation’s website.
Residents can submit comments online or by email, and transportation officials say public input will help shape the final design.
For more information, people can contact the SDDOT project manager directly.
