Game 1: Crooks Leads 16-Hit Attack in 19-7 Rout
Darin Crooks powered the offense in the opener, driving in four runs on three hits as Spearfish rolled to a 19-7 victory.
Sturgis struck first in the opening inning when Brody Royer drew a bases-loaded walk, but Spearfish quickly answered in the second. Crooks doubled to left to bring in a run, and Walker Viessman followed with an RBI single to give Post 164 the lead for good.
Spearfish broke things open in the third inning. Cooper Chase worked a walk to force in a run, Crooks lined a two-run single down the left-field line, and Tucker Olson capped the inning with a two-run double to center.
The biggest blow came in the seventh, when Post 164 erupted for eight runs on five hits. Owen Bruner delivered a three-run double, Tucker Viessman and Crooks each drove in runs after being hit by pitches, Walker Viessman added a two-run single, and Olson capped the inning with an RBI knock.
Spearfish finished with 16 hits and 10 walks in the game. Walker Viessman led the charge at the plate, going 4-for-5, while Olson and Sean Sewell each added multiple hits.
Sewell also picked up the win on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings while allowing six hits and six runs (five earned) with six strikeouts. Jack Scharf closed in relief.
Royer led Sturgis with three RBIs, while Blake Kaufman went 2-for-4. Both teams drew walks consistently, with Sturgis totaling seven.
Game 2: Viessman, Olson Stay Hot in 14-2 Win
Spearfish carried that momentum into Game 2, using another big offensive performance to secure a 14-2 victory and complete the sweep.
Walker Viessman stayed red-hot at the plate, collecting three hits in four at-bats with singles in the first, second, and fifth innings. Tucker Olson matched him with three hits, helping pace a 13-hit day for Post 164.
Spearfish jumped ahead early in the first inning when Owen Bruner singled home a run and Sewell followed with a two-run double.
The game turned into a rout in the fifth inning, when Spearfish plated eight runs. Sewell started the rally with an RBI single, Crooks doubled in two runs, and Viessman added another RBI single. An error allowed two runs to score, Sewell drew a bases-loaded walk, and Carson Wood brought in a run on a fielder’s choice.
Sewell led the team with three RBIs, finishing 2-for-3, while Bruner added two hits.
Bray Bowar earned the win on the mound, tossing five innings and allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out five.
Defensively, Spearfish was sharp, committing no errors and turning a double play. Tucker Viessman led the way defensively with six plays.
For Sturgis, Brody Royer, Jack Jolley, and Landon Lyons each recorded a hit.
