The South Dakota Commission on Gaming reports Deadwood gaming activity was essentially unchanged in May.
The total gaming handle dipped just one-tenth of a percent compared to May of last year.
Despite the flat month, overall numbers remain strong. Gaming in Deadwood is up more than nine percent through the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.
Breaking it down—slot machines posted a slight gain in May, up just over half a percent. Table games declined by about 9.5 percent, while sports wagering saw a larger drop of nearly 20 percent.
Casinos also offered more than 2 million dollars in free play incentives during the month. That led to taxable gaming revenues of just under 12-point-7 million dollars.
In total, gaming taxes generated more than 1-point-1 million dollars in May. Portions of that revenue support the state general fund, South Dakota Tourism, and Lawrence County.
Deadwood Gaming Association Director George Milos says while May was steady, the year-to-date growth is encouraging—adding that visitors continue to see strong value in Deadwood’s gaming, lodging, dining, and entertainment options.
