A 40-year-old Kyle man has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
According to U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons, Marcel Boyd was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler to 30 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Boyd was also ordered to pay a 100-dollar special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Federal prosecutors say the case stemmed from a July 10th, 2024, incident in Kyle. Officers responding to reports of gunshots allegedly observed Boyd point a pistol at others and fire it into the air before running into a residence.
Authorities say officers later entered the home after seeing what appeared to be a small child signaling for help from inside. Boyd was taken into custody without injury, and investigators later recovered the firearm from beneath a mattress.
Boyd was indicted by a federal grand jury in September of 2024 and pleaded guilty this past March. Because of a previous felony conviction punishable by more than one year in prison, federal law prohibited him from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety as part of Operation Take Back America.
Following sentencing, Boyd was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
