Several fire agencies responded to a wildfire south of Spearfish on Sunday afternoon.
The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. in the area south of Oliver Street. When crews arrived, firefighters quickly began attacking the blaze and were able to stop its forward progress.
Spearfish Fire Rescue was assisted by South Dakota State Wildland Fire, the Whitewood Volunteer Fire Department, and the Deadwood Volunteer Fire Department.
Officials say the fire was contained to approximately 1.1 acres. No injuries have been reported.
Also responding to the scene were the Spearfish Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service, and the Lawrence County Office of Emergency Management.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by South Dakota State Wildland Fire.
