The public is invited to honor a fallen Rapid City soldier next month during a special Fallen Heroes Bridge Dedication Ceremony.
The event will recognize the service and sacrifice of First Lieutenant Laurence Radlinger, a Rapid City native who was killed in France during World War II while serving overseas. According to military memorial records, Radlinger died following an explosion during combat operations in France.
The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, August 17th, at the Minneluzahan Senior Center in Rapid City. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m., and the event is free and open to the public.
The Minneluzahan Senior Center is hosting the ceremony in partnership with the Fallen Heroes Bridge Dedication Committee. Veterans, military families, civic leaders, and community members are encouraged to attend as the community reflects on Radlinger’s sacrifice and the service of South Dakota’s military heroes.
The bridge dedication is part of a statewide program honoring South Dakota service members who gave their lives in service to the nation. Each year, the Fallen Heroes Bridge Dedication Committee selects veterans and bridge locations for recognition, with ceremonies taking place across the state from May through November.
Since the program began, 72 bridges have been dedicated in honor of 78 South Dakota service members, helping preserve their stories and ensuring their sacrifices are not forgotten.
