A team of Custer County firefighters is heading to North Dakota after completing a two-week wildfire deployment in Colorado.
According to the Fairburn Volunteer Fire Department, Team 625 has been called to assist near Fort Yates, North Dakota. Officials have not yet announced the team’s specific assignment.
During its deployment in Colorado, Team 625 worked on two separate wildfires. At the Fishhook Fire, firefighters helped protect properties and established water drop points to allow firefighting aircraft to quickly refill and return to operations.
Before that, the crew assisted at the Gold Mountain Fire, where they worked to safeguard homes and critical infrastructure by installing sprinkler systems and other protective measures.
The firefighters are now preparing to support wildfire response efforts in North Dakota as fire conditions continue to challenge crews across the region.
