Elijah Wyatt delivered a monster performance Wednesday night, driving in six runs on three hits to lead the Spearfish Sasquatch to a commanding 14-2 victory over the Casper Spuds at Black Hills Energy Stadium.
With the win, the Sasquatch improved to 3-0 in the four-game series and will look for the sweep when the two teams meet in the finale tonight in Spearfish.
Wyatt was at the center of Spearfish’s offensive explosion. He drove in a run with a first-inning single, cleared the bases with a three-run double in the second inning, and added a two-run single in the fourth to finish with six RBIs.
The Sasquatch wasted little time taking control. Spearfish scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Grant Sommers started the rally with an RBI single down the left-field line, Crew Moeller drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, and Wyatt followed with an RBI single to give the home team a quick 3-0 advantage.
The lead grew substantially in the second inning when the Sasquatch erupted for five runs on three hits. Sommers added another RBI single, Moeller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Wyatt’s three-run double highlighted the inning as Spearfish built an 8-0 lead.
The offensive support was more than enough for right-hander Karver Partlow, who turned in a dominant outing on the mound. Partlow earned the victory after allowing just two runs on five hits over six innings while striking out nine and walking two.
Mac Hibben closed out the game in impressive fashion, tossing a scoreless inning and striking out all three batters he faced.
The Sasquatch offense totaled 14 hits. Wyatt, Sommers and Bo Iandoli each recorded three-hit games, while Sam Kwapnioski added two hits. Spearfish also showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks. Jett Hutchinson and Zach Pearrow each walked twice.
Casper was led by Hunter Stonecipher, who collected two hits, while Stonecipher and Kaeden Wilcox each drove in a run. Despite the loss, the Spuds played error-free defense and turned a double play.
With one game remaining in the series, Spearfish has controlled the matchup from the start, using timely hitting, strong pitching and a balanced lineup to build a 3-0 advantage.
Now the Sasquatch will try to finish the job.
First pitch for Game 4 is scheduled for tonight in Spearfish at 6:05 pm, where the Sasquatch will be looking to complete the series sweep of Casper.
