The City of Belle Fourche is reminding residents to place only tree limbs and branches in branch collection piles after debris hidden in a pile damaged city equipment and disrupted operations.
City officials say an unidentified item became lodged in a shredder, forcing workers to spend more than an hour removing it and requiring repairs. The equipment is now temporarily out of service.
Officials say similar incidents involving concrete, rocks, metal and other materials have repeatedly damaged equipment, leading to costly repairs and delays in services such as branch pickup and landfill operations.
The city is asking residents to keep branch piles limited to wood materials only. Anyone with questions about what can be disposed of is encouraged to contact the Belle Fourche landfill.
For more information, residents can call the landfill at 605-892-3530.
