A dangerous high-speed pursuit across western South Dakota ended Friday morning with a suspect in custody near the Wyoming state line.
Witnesses said the chase involved a white Toyota Tundra with Texas license plates and began east of Rapid City on Interstate 90. The driver reportedly reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour while weaving through traffic, passing vehicles on both sides of the highway and at times using the shoulder.
Authorities reportedly deployed spike strips at several locations, but the driver initially avoided them before striking a set near Exit 32. Witnesses say the vehicle continued westbound despite severe tire damage and, at one point, briefly traveled on the wrong side of the interstate.
The pursuit continued through Spearfish, where the vehicle reportedly reached speeds between 70 and 90 miles per hour while riding on just two tires.
The chase ended near the Wyoming state line, where law enforcement officers took the driver into custody.
Officials have not yet released additional information, and the incident remains under investigation.
