A man was arrested Sunday after leading law enforcement on a pursuit in a stolen pickup truck across Meade County.
According to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Faith Police first spotted the suspect and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Authorities later terminated the chase when it entered Faith’s city limits due to safety concerns.
Investigators then turned to the air. The sheriff’s office says a local rancher provided an airplane, and the pilot worked alongside the Ziebach County Sheriff to search for the suspect from above.
Around 8:20 pm Sunday, the aircraft located the stolen pickup sitting in a pasture. The plane remained overhead, guiding deputies and assisting officers to the location.
When law enforcement converged on the truck, officials say the suspect advanced toward officers and was taken into custody using non-lethal bean bag rounds.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was arrested on multiple charges.
The sheriff’s office praised the teamwork involved in the case, noting that Faith Police, the Ziebach County Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, county deputies, dispatchers, assisting agencies, and the local pilot all played a role in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.
