Officials are reminding residents that burn bans remain in effect in both the City of Deadwood and throughout Lawrence County despite recent rainfall.
The restrictions prohibit all outdoor burning and several activities that could spark a wildfire. Officials say smoking is only allowed inside a closed vehicle or building, and open flames are prohibited. Charcoal grills, wood or pellet-fired smokers, welding, and torch use are also banned.
Authorities say while the area has received some moisture, conditions remain dangerously dry, and the fire risk continues to be high.
Residents are being urged to use caution, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious smoke or fire activity to authorities immediately.
Officials stress that everyone has a role to play in preventing wildfires during the ongoing dry conditions.
