The Belle Fourche Senior Legion Broncs saw their season come to an end over the weekend after going 0-and-2 at the South Dakota Class B State Tournament in Madison.
Belle Fourche opened tournament play Friday with a 7-2 loss to Parkston. The Broncs scored first in the opening inning when Caeyn Howard drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but Parkston responded and pulled away with a three-run fourth inning.
Howard turned in a solid effort on the mound, striking out six over five and two-thirds innings, while Raif Parmeter, Gavin Pearson, and Trig Thomsen accounted for Belle Fourche’s three hits.
Facing elimination Saturday, the Broncs nearly completed a remarkable comeback against Dakota Valley before falling 12-10.
Belle Fourche found itself in an early 8-0 hole after Dakota Valley erupted in the second inning, but the Broncs battled back throughout the game. Raif Parmeter led the charge, blasting a three-run home run in the third inning and later adding an RBI double. He finished 2-for-5 with five RBIs.
The Broncs scored five runs in the sixth inning to pull within striking distance. Gavin Pearson delivered an RBI triple, Howard and Tate Thomsen each drove in runs, and Belle Fourche continued to pressure Dakota Valley late in the game.
Pearson, Parmeter, and Graham VanderBoom each collected two hits as Belle Fourche finished with 10 hits in the season-ending loss.
Dakota Valley advanced in the tournament before later defeating Groton 8-4 on Sunday to remain alive in the elimination bracket.
For Belle Fourche, the two losses brought the 2026 Senior Legion season to a close, while the Broncs showed resilience in nearly overcoming a major deficit in their final game of the year.
