Drivers in Rapid City and Pennington County should prepare for several road construction projects and traffic changes in the coming days.
Beginning Monday, Homestead Street in Rapid City will be reduced to one lane between Turbine Drive and Elk Vale Road while crews install a new sanitary sewer line. The lane closure is expected to remain in place through August 7.
In eastern Pennington County, 225th Street between Dyess Avenue and North Elk Vale Road will be closed August 4 through August 6 for road work.
County officials also say Old Folsom Road between Antelope Creek Road and Lower Spring Creek Road could close as early as August 6 through August 11, although that project remains dependent on weather and contractor schedules.
Meanwhile, the South Dakota Department of Transportation reports work on Highway 16A near Custer State Park has entered its final phase. Most remaining work is not expected to impact traffic, and construction activity will pause during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup.
Transportation officials are also inviting the public to an informational meeting August 4 regarding the planned Highway 16, 16B, and Catron Boulevard interchange project in southwest Rapid City. Construction on that long-term project is expected to begin later this year.
Drivers are encouraged to use caution in work zones and allow extra travel time.
