The Spearfish Sasquatch are back-to-back Independence League Baseball champions.
Spearfish completed a two-game sweep of the Casper Spuds over the weekend to capture its second consecutive league title and finish the 2026 season with an impressive 40-10 record.
In Friday’s championship opener, the Sasquatch rallied late for an 8-5 victory behind a huge night from Braden Smith, who went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Smith’s solo homer gave Spearfish an early lead, and his two-run single in the eighth inning broke a 5-5 tie and put the championship game out of reach.
Malakai Lopez added a solo home run, while Sam Kwapnioski drove in two runs. On the mound, Mac Hibben earned the win with two strong innings of relief, striking out four. Spearfish collected 14 hits and turned two double plays in the victory.
The Sasquatch then sealed the championship Saturday with a 12-9 win in another offensive showcase.
Grant Sommers paced the attack, going a perfect 5-for-5 with a home run, double, and three singles. After trailing 8-6 in the fourth inning, Spearfish exploded back in front in the fifth when Kendrick Aragon, Lopez, and Sommers all homered. Lopez finished with four RBIs, while Crew Moeller, Bo Iandoli, Garrett Houston, Braden Smith, and Aragon all contributed multiple hits as the Sasquatch racked up 22 hits.
Colter Wilson earned the win in relief, allowing just two runs over five and two-thirds innings while striking out eight.
The championship sweep capped a dominant summer for Spearfish, which finished 40-10 and successfully defended its Independence League crown, cementing the Sasquatch as one of the premier summer collegiate baseball programs in the region.
