A Cadillac limousine took an unexpected detour during Sturgis Motorcycle Rally week, ending up in a Meade County sewage lagoon.
According to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, a 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood limousine was discovered Thursday morning partially submerged in a wastewater pond. Deputies say the vehicle apparently traveled through a campground, several fences, and a pasture before coming to rest in the lagoon.
Fortunately, no one was found inside the vehicle. The sheriff’s office added with a touch of humor that there were “no bodies in the trunk” when the limousine was recovered.
Plains Towing removed the vehicle from the lagoon Thursday morning.
Authorities are now working to locate the owner of the limousine and are asking anyone missing a Cadillac Fleetwood limousine to contact the sheriff’s office.
While details remain unclear, deputies used the unusual incident as a reminder for motorists to drive safely during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Reduced speed limits remain in effect on Interstate 90 between Rapid City and Sturgis, and officials say their focus is on safety rather than ticket quotas.
Authorities have not said how the limousine ended up in the lagoon or whether any charges are being considered.
